Scholarship | knowledge acquired by study
Research | engaged in investigation and discovery
Creative Activity | characterized by originality and the use of imagination
At VIU, SRCA is part of our commitment to deliver incredible experiences to our students, staff and community. We know the earlier and more frequently students engage in these experiences, the deeper and more transformative the learning becomes.
Funding
There are many funding opportunities available to students engaged in SRCA at VIU. We encourage you to explore the options and apply for every opportunity you are eligible for, from research scholarships to grants that support knowledge mobilization and dissemination activities.
SRCA student workshops
Throughout the academic year, you can attend workshops hosted by the Student Research Engagement Coordinator. These sessions provide guidance on eligibility, application requirements, and tips for writing a competitive application. The 2026-27 workshops are:
- REACH
- Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Master's (CGRS-M)
- Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRAs) (USRA)
Some workshops have multiple session dates. These are repeat offerings with identical content, so choose the date that works best for you.
CREATE
CREATE is VIU’s annual student conference, hosted by the Office of Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity.
The conference gives you the opportunity to share your research, scholarship, or creative work in a supportive academic setting. You can present your project, receive feedback, and connect with fellow students, faculty, staff, and community members.
CREATE celebrates student achievement while encouraging curiosity, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas across the VIU community.
